To introduce artists and build cultural connections, the World Association of Calligraphers organizes and supports in-person, virtual, group and solo exhibitions in countries around the world. These exhibitions can take place in galleries, museums, cultural centers, universities, schools and other art spaces, and can include calligraphy, calligraphic painting, the written arts and related art forms.

Goals of our exhibitions

  • Introduce member artists to the artistic community.
  • Create opportunities for the work of both emerging and experienced artists to be seen.
  • Build connections between artists, galleries, collectors, universities and cultural institutions.
  • Support cultural exchange between countries.
  • Present the many styles and traditions of calligraphy from around the world.
  • Support the professional presentation of artists' work.
  • Strengthen the place of calligraphy and calligraphic painting in contemporary art.
  • Create pathways for artists to take part in international exhibitions.

Grouped by level

To keep things fair and respect every participant's artistic standing, the association presents work in groups suited to the artist's age, experience and artistic level. Work by children, teenagers, beginning students, amateur artists, professional artists and distinguished masters is shown in separate sections or in ways suited to its level. This grouping does not diminish any artist; it exists so that each work is seen and considered on its own terms.

Taking part

Participation in an exhibition follows each exhibition's own conditions. Membership of the association or registration of an artwork does not in itself mean acceptance into an exhibition.

Artists can take part in exhibitions through the association's official call for entries. Applicants submit their personal details, an artistic biography, high-quality images of their work, the work's title, dimensions, technique and any other requested information.

Submissions are reviewed against the exhibition's theme, quality, originality, fit with the relevant section and published rules. The final selection is made by the exhibition committee or a specialist panel of the association.

Virtual exhibitions

For artists who are unable to travel or attend in person, the association organizes virtual exhibitions. These present the work's image, the artist's details, a description of the work and a way to contact the artist through their own page.

Virtual exhibitions make it possible to introduce work to audiences around the world, and can be organized by theme, country, occasion or artistic level.

International exhibitions and cultural exchange

Working with country representatives, museums, universities, galleries and cultural institutions, the association seeks to organize joint international exhibitions. In these programs, artists from different countries present work on themes such as love, kindness, friendship, humanity and peace — an opportunity to learn about other cultures, discover different writing traditions and build friendships among artists around the world.

Participation and recognition

After an exhibition ends, the association may issue selected artists or participants a certificate of participation or of selection for the exhibition. Selected work and distinguished artists may also be featured on the website, in the Digital Archive and in the association's official media. As with membership, being selected for one exhibition does not itself grade an artist's work or guarantee acceptance into future exhibitions.

Sales and artists' rights

Where an artist agrees, their work may be presented for sale or introduced to collectors and galleries. All moral and material rights to the work remain with the artist, and any sale, reproduction, publication or advertising use requires the artist's permission.

The association can help with introducing, documenting and connecting an artist with buyers and art institutions, but the final decision on price, sale and the terms of any transaction rests with the artist.

Our commitment

The association is committed to organizing exhibitions with professionalism, transparency, respect for artists' rights, respect for the integrity of the work, and attention to differences in age and artistic level. Its exhibitions are not only places to display work: they are spaces for learning, connection, dialogue, cultural exchange and turning the written arts into a shared language of love, friendship and peace.
